Inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase”, this piece was originally meant to test post-tensioned construction techniques in combination with 3D printed ceramics. Similar methods are being used in the construction of La Sagrada Familia for the structural stone pieces at the top of the towers. Combining these more practical studies with movement and digital workflows, Dude Ascending the Staircase is a combination of innovation, art and technology - particularly with the use of SLS technology to 3D print the moving figures.
